spin - robert charles wilson
Spin was lovely and dazzling and fascinating - science fiction, but thoroughly believable, an end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it story that never felt forced or contrived, and best of all, a brilliant love story with hardly any kissing in it. I had no idea where any of it was going and Wilson kept me glued to a big book, up to the smashing ending. And even now, several weeks after I finished it, it has me looking up at the stars on occasion to see whether it's happening yet...
So, highly recommended, can't say much more about it. Except my one quibble: the cover. Maybe Tor can start doing cross-over covers for books like this that might interest people outside the SF-community? The cover is not too awful, but still quite SF and while I know it's silly, I'd still be happier to be seen with something more mainstream, perhaps like Harry Potter's grownup covers.
