Fabulous. First time ever in my long long history of doing NaNoWriMo that I have actually written a complete story, with a beginning, a middle and an end and lots of semi-coherent back story.

It's not a book yet, it needs a lot of work to become anywhere near ready to be shown to poor unsuspecting people, but I' actually looking forward to the revision process, fleshing out my sketchy scenes and my shoddy characters and weeding out the too-obvious references to LOTR.

I'm glad I took it relatively easy this year and worked at a steady, slowish pace. Made me nervous to be behind the recommended word count for the whole month, and to finish on the very last day (I've never done that before either), but I think it has been good for the story. It certainly meant that I didn't have to do too much shoveling to get out the fossil (to stay in Stephen King's analogy for writing a story), and in stead concentrated on using the smaller implements to lay it bare.

Good times. Now tea, and chocolate, and mangoes.
