the bermudez triangle - maureen johnson
I've been reading Maureen Johnson's weblog for ages, and she's really funny and sweet and smart, but I hadn't read any of her (YA) fiction yet. And that was a mistake, since she's a great and funny and human writer, it turns out.
The Bermudez Triangle is full of remarkably smart and interesting adolescents and does a very good job of staying away from sit-commy stereotypes. Yes, sorry, my YA-prejudices are still alive enough to be on the look-out for those. But not necessary with this book - it's lovely all around.
