gentlemen and players - joanne harris
When I was disenchanted with the Dutch translation of The Lollipop Shoes, I got Gentlemen and Players from the library to see whether Ms Harris was any good after all. And she is!
This one was a good quick read, and while I saw through the central thingie rather early on, I did like the old teacher enormously and the story held my attention to the last bit.
Though now that I think back on it it may have lacked a certain, hmn, believability in the motivations department... The central character's motivation to do all that is perhaps a tad thin. But who cares. Great read, if you're into that whole British boarding school thing. And who isn't, in this post-HP world?
