I don't think it's my main ambition in life to become a manager of people, but First, Break all the Rules is also good for people who mainly manage themselves.

The big takeaway for me is the very 'duh!' realisation that you've got to build on your talents, not so much try to fix what you're not very good at. For instance, I love ordering things, making sure the bills are paid, taxes are in order, systems in place. Updating my spreadsheet of invoices makes me really happy.

This is a talent, and not a weird disorder. And I should be less squamish about seeing it as the asset it is. I also love talking to clients about the strategic things going on in their market. And I love Story. So I should do things with that, and not worry that I'll be forever crap at this web game because the deeply technical bits scare me.

Also the fact that I need to be told these things again and again should worry me too much. I think. Maybe. Argh. Work is hard. I think I'll go update some to-do lists now or something.
