duma key - stephen king
I find it very odd that couldn't see the point in Stephen King a few years ago. I read and re-read his On Writing at least once a year, usually just before NaNoWriMo, but I couldn't really be bothered to read Horror, I thought.
Mistake! I got stuck halfway through Lisey's Story, but Duma Key was absolutely wonderful, everything I want in a book, really. One of those book that you really want to finish, even if you mostly know the news is going to be very bad.
I love King's use of colloquialisms, and his tough, believable people, who may get into supernatural trouble but who remain real and plausible and often quite surprising. I'm re-reading this already, most inspirational.
