I first heard about Toby Litt on the radio, where someone was discussing the Dutch translation of his novel Hospital. It sounded weird and wonderful, and the reviewer also mentioned that his other books (charmingly published in alphabetical order, even though they aren't a series, so Hospital is number 8 and Corpsing number 3) were very good, crazy mixings of genres and literature, and also humorous. Just the ticket for me!

And Corpsing (the only one of his my library had in stock on the day I was there) was, indeed, very good. It's a crime novel, a suitably mysterious contemporary whodunnit, but it also veers into weirdly uninhibited psychological novel territory, and more than once reminded me of Martin Amis' London Fields. I will definitely seek out more of his novels.
