duck for cover - booklog

about

Duck for Cover is my booklog. I know it’s a fairly lame pun that no-one who does not know that the Dutch word ‘eend’ means duck and is the name of our company will understand, but hey, it’s my log, isn’t it?

I have always been a really big reader. My mother tells me I already knew one of my ‘Nijntje’ books by heart before my sister was born, which would mean I was under two years old. In university, I used to study English Literature and before that I did two years of Indian Languages (Sanskrit and stuff). I now work in a completely different field (business person for a website design company) and don’t have that much time, but reading is a basic necessity for me.

I also have the secret ambition to be a writer. For years, I did little about this wish except moan and groan en feel envious for those people who were actually brave enough to put words on paper, but I'm slowly working my way up to some real writing. In 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 I participated in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The results so far have been one thriller about Prince Claus ("The Disappearing Act"), one Harry Potter look-alike novel, a dinosaur book, a thing about finding religion (that was also mostly abour Prince Claus, I'm afraid) and my favourite, Late Night Sessions, a riff on Paul Auster's wonderful Oracle Night.

photograph of marrijeSome randomly uninteresting statistics: Marrije is 38 years old, 1.75 meters tall, has one boyfriend, 2 sons, 1 car, 4 bicycles, and 1 house. I have no religion, both my eyes are -1.5, my hair is an artificial red and I prefer tea over coffee. Fascinating, no?

Design was done by Robert Jan (many thanks!). And yes, a real book was hurt in the production of this website. Sorry about that.
