Bugger. The other brother, the one I've been trying to avoid, is taking the stage and starting a first-person account of what has happened to him in '89. And it's working, bless him: he's still a bit rudimentary, but at least he's got a voice and a point of view and lots to tell, even if he's going about it in a roundabout way. It even looks like this might be the real start of the book.
I just noticed that's one of the other standard features of my NaNoes: half-way through I start writing a new and different beginning to the story. So predictable. Can this year's Big Dip be far behind??
